Click to hear Chef Toyin share her story

Nigerian Chef, Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Adewumi, of TamBo’s Kitchen in Avon, MA, is excited to share recipes that have been passed down through her family for generations, and have influenced flavors of American Cuisine for ages.

Toyin comes from a lineage of chefs, food merchants, bakers, and street food vendors. Her delicious and mouthwatering dishes are influenced by cooking traditions and time-honored recipes from West Africa.

In 2016, she was finally able to actualize her life dream, starting a restaurant called TamBo’s Kitchen. But the same day that she was given her certificate of occupancy for the restaurant, she was diagnosed with stage 3 triple positive metastatic breast cancer. What to do? All her life savings (and debt) had gone into making this baby a reality, but she also had a life-threatening disease.

Should she give up? No. She moved on.

Today, she is alive and TamBo’s Kitchen is alive. But she is facing another whirlwind: COVID-19. This virus is “acting like slow moving hurricane”, with the restaurant industry being its biggest casualties. But for Toyin, this looks kind of familiar. In 2016, TamBo’s Kitchen was an infant. It is now a toddler. And Toyin is here today, carrying on with her mission of bringing the most delicious tastes and flavors of Africa to your home.
